Taking a Break from Social Media and Coaching for Clarity

By Brooke DeBoer

Feeling overwhelmed or disconnected lately? You’re not alone. In this post, I’ll share why taking a break from social media and coaching changed everything—and how you can apply this same intentional pause to realign with your purpose.

We live in a world that’s constantly pulling at us. Studies show we check our phones over 344 times per day, and the endless stream of notifications, posts, and demands can leave us drained and disconnected. That’s why I chose to take a break from social media and coaching—to quiet the noise and come home to myself.

This summer, I unplugged to be fully present for my family. Our daughter Paige got married in Maui, we helped Haylee move home and launch her new hairstyling business in Southern Oregon (if you’re local, reply here to book with her!), and we settled our youngest into college (Go Utes!). I stepped away from content calendars and client calls—and I found something far more powerful: clarity, presence, and peace.

“Almost everything will work again if you unplug it for a few minutes… including you.” – Anne Lamott

💡 3 Things You Can Learn from Taking a Break

1. Slowing Down Speeds Up Alignment
When you’re always doing, it’s easy to lose sight of why. Taking a break from social media and coaching gave me the space to hear my own voice again.

2. Presence is a Powerful Practice
I’ve been listening to Eckhart Tolle lately (watch my favorite video here) and reflecting on how presence isn’t a trend—it’s a lifeline. Even 15 minutes of silence can shift everything.

3. Your Value Isn’t in Output
We’re not meant to produce endlessly. You are valuable just as you are—whether or not you’re posting, producing, or pushing.

“You should sit in meditation for twenty minutes a day… unless you’re too busy. Then you should sit for an hour.” – Zen proverb

💬 Final Thought

If life has felt noisy, chaotic, or out of alignment, maybe what you need isn’t to do more—but to do less, more intentionally. If you feel called to reset, consider taking a break from social media and coaching—or anything else that’s stealing your peace—and notice what returns to you.
